DO YOU STILL CLAP DURING PRAISE AND WORSHIP?

Do you still clap during praise and worship?

Are you moved to clap, during praise?

Is clapping a way of praising God?

What is about clapping that isn’t acceptable to God?

Is it the rhythm of the clap or the hands that clap?

What is the meaning of clapping?

According to Collins Dictionary, to clap means ‘to strike the palms of (one’s hands) against one another resoundingly, and usually repeatedly, especially to express approval.’

To express approval? Approval of what… of who? Approval of God?

Can we approve God?

It is imperative that to bring a worthy sacrifice to God we have to consider exactly what God wants. God’s approval is the yardstick for true worship.

Is clap an offering?

Does God approve or expect a clap offering?

How do we know God’s expectations/requirements on worship?

Let’s Check God’s word.

Psalm 47:1

O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.

As we see in the scripture, we don’t clap for God or to God.

So if God doesn’t accept a clap offering because He doesn’t need our approval, why then do you still feel the need to clap to Him?

In worship, you don’t pay attention to your feelings, you pay attention to God’s needs, and you are worshipping to satisfy Him. It is just like one who orders food in a restaurant. You don’t give him what you feel, you give him what he ordered. His satisfaction is your goal, nothing less.

So the next time you feel like clapping ask yourself, “ Is this about me or about God?

In worship, our focus is God, (God’s approval).
